Dear
UPLI Board Members and active members of UPLI
It
is with sadness that I write to tell you that our president, Ben Yuzon, died
last night at about 9:30. He had been in the hospital, then came home for two
days and died last night. His wife, Pilar, called to let me know this afternoon.
Ben’s burial will be on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 in
the afternoon.
Ben’s wife, Pilar, as expected, is having a very
difficult time. Her children are all with her now in their house. She is having
trouble trying to answer all of the phone calls, but I am sure she would
appreciate receiving cards. They are so helpful during a time of grief because
they last longer in that they can be read and reread to help her as time goes
on. For those who do not have it readily available, her address is Mrs. Benjamin
R. Yuzon, 2226 Pheasant Dr., Hercules, CA, USA 94574.
As
executive vice president, Wanda Rider is now in charge of UPLI. We should all
give her the support to continue our wonderful organization. Noriko Mizusaki
will also need our support to be sure the Congress will be successful as
planned.
I
will continue doing what I have been doing to assist with the Congress and UPLI
until a new president is elected and appoints their own
secretary/treasurer. We should all be
considering who we should nominate for President of UPLI.
Other positions available will be various regional
directorships and possibly, some vice presidencies. In this time of transition, we must all work
together to be sure our organization continues doing the fine, international
work for promoting understanding and brotherhood through poetry. Like Ben used to say all the time, “Sometimes
brothers might not get along, but they always love each other.” The loving thing to do in our time of loss is
to get along together and support each other with all of our hearts and
abilities.
Please keep in touch, Judy
